Maintaining a regular schedule of service for your Volvo is crucial to its optimal performance. The filth that has accumulated in your engine can be diminished and cleaned out with regular oil changes. The cleaner your engine is, the better it will be. Check your owner's manual or give our automotive repair service in Brooklyn a call if you are unsure about your vehicle's interval.

How To Perform Volvo Car Engine Oil Change

Step 1: Jack It Up And Open It

You must first raise the vehicle so that you can get beneath it to do the work. Make sure you're taking all necessary precautions whenever you use a hoist, ramp, or jack stand.

Step 2: Pull The Plug And Let It Drain

Place your oil receptacle, whether it's a five-gallon pail, oil drain pan (available at auto-parts stores), oil reservoir, or something else of similar size, in a spot where the oil can flow into it without spilling. Don't forget that there will be a lot of oil. To get rid of the drain stopper, turn the appropriate wrench counterclockwise and loosen it. Keep your grip on the drain plug as you pull it out of the oil pan; the oil will begin to spill as soon as you do. In order to completely drain the engine, give it 5 min or until the oil trickles out.

Step 3: Toss Out That Filter

Look for the oil filter. What looks like a softball-sized cylinder is actually a part of the engine that is attached through a screw. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise to loosen it so that oil can flow out of the top and into your container, either by hand or using an oil-filter wrench. Stop the flow, and then you can finish taking out the filter.

Step 4: Turn Filter On and Drain Plug In

Put back the drain plug and screw it in securely but not too tightly: Oil drain plugs and pans can be damaged by excessive tightening. Put some effort into making it tighter.

Step 5: Put Oil Back in It

Put the car back on the ground after replacing the oil filter and drain plug and reinstalling the undertray. The oil cap, represented by a can of oil, must be removed before the hood can be opened. Oil should be poured into the engine using a funnel at the recommended volume as specified by the manufacturer.

Step 6: Make Sure the Oil Is Full And Look For Any Leaks

Finally, when the oil has settled into the pan for a few minutes, check the level with the dipstick to ensure it is adequate. It's easy to perform an oil check: Take the dipstick out of its pipe, wipe off any excess oil with a towel, re-insert the dipstick, pull it out again, and make sure the oil level reads full. Finally, turn the key and let the car warm up while you inspect the undercarriage and oil filter for leaks.
