Pairing a Bluetooth device such as a phone is a simple process which allows you to access many features including turn by turn control, handsfree use of the phone and access to your gallery and music. Even if you are a novice at pairing your phone with a vehicle, you will find the process of pairing any phone to a Volvo to be an easy one. The general process of pairing a phone to your Vehicle is:

Bluetooth Pairing in a Volvo

Most Volvo models will require you to do the following when pairing your phone to the vehicle:

  • Turn the vehicle on, or at least make sure that the radio or infotainment system is on.
  • Go to your phone and activate Bluetooth. Ensure that the phone is visible to nearby devices. Some phones will have a timer about how long they will stay visible, and the process should be complete by then.
  • Make sure that the phone and the vehicle are in proximity. Ideally, you should turn on the car's Bluetooth when you have the phone in the vehicle.
  • On the centre console, press the "TEL" or "MEDIA" button, and then select "OK"
  • Follow the instructions on your car's infotainment screen and phone until the pairing is complete. This should take under a minute.
  • Once the pairing is done, press "Exit". The phone will pair with the vehicle whenever they are in proximity with each other.
  • Before starting the paring process, make sure that your phone has enough battery power left, especially if you intend to do other things such as using the Bluetooth connection to make the vehicle access the internet through your phone's data plan. This will initially require some time, and the phone shutting down in the middle of the process could necessitate that the process be started all over again.

In newer vehicles, you may need to get to the Bluetooth settings through the connectivity button on the car's infotainment system. This will show you all the Bluetooth devices in range and select the one representing your phone. Once you do this, you can then follow the prompts on both the phone and the car to finish the pairing process.

If the pairing process is interrupted before it's complete, you will need to start over. To do this, delete the vehicle from the Bluetooth devices in your phone and vice versa from the vehicle, and then start the pairing process anew. This is the only way to quickly get them to pair seamlessly.
