Ravenswood is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. Steinway Street bounds the setting to the north, Broadway to the east, 30th Avenue to the south, and 41st Avenue to the west. The area was initially settled by English farmers in 1652. The name Ravenswood comes from the estate of John Bayard, whose family named their property after Ravensdale in Derbyshire, England. The area remained rural until 1868, when Long Island City annexed it. In 1898, Ravenswood became part of Greater New York City following consolidation.
